To promote “The Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China’s First Emperor” exhibition hosted by the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) have jointly organised the Fashion.Terracotta Warrior Inspired Fashion Design Competition, with ITC as the design collaborator.
The competition has received overwhelming response with 172 entries submitted by fashion design students and graduates in Hong Kong, Macau and the Chinese mainland. Among them, 19 outstanding collections were shortlisted and showcased individually by catwalk for final judging at PolyU’s teaching and research hotel, Hotel ICON on 26 July.
Winner: Bonnie Cheng
Collection: The deity (祟拜)
The square lace flowers on the armour add femininity to the powerful warrior image.
1st Runner-up: Daphney Ho
Collection: Eternal Terracotta Warriors (盛俑)
The concept comes from the delicate warrior statues, like armour pieces, hair details and silhouettes.
2nd Runner-up: Jenny Chui
Collection: The True Colors (本色)
The designer traces back the origin of the Terracotta Army by showing its true colors.
Digital printing and laser treatments are used in the works to preserve the traditional silhouette and colors while embodying the fading colors of the Army.
The designer also uses symmetrical elements to suggest the disciplined Army and modernity.
